Female Cricket

For the 2017/18 season the Wairarapa Cricket Association will have the following playing opportunities available to female cricketers:

Junior Club System

Friday Night Cricket – For Girls Year 1 through to year 5/6 cricket can be played via the WCA JCB club system in the following grades – Kiwi, Super 8 & Incrediball. You can find club coordinator contact details via the WCA Handbook or our Clubs / Schools contact page.

Saturday Morning Hardball and Thursday Girls Development Teams – From Year 5 to Year 9 Girls are able to play as part of one of Wairarapa’s Development Girls squads in the JCB Saturday morning Hardball competition or the Thursday Lone Star Grade (where a school team is entered in this grade, girls are expected to give priority to playing for their school). As at April 2016 there were two squads of 12 to 13 Girls participating in this competition. These squads are open to any Girl wishing to play and hardball – if your daughter is interested please feel free to contact one of our Female Development Officer at fdo@wairarapacricket.co.nz, WCA Development Manager Simon Roseingrave (027 495 6884 or development@wairarapacricket.co.nz ) or Development Girls coach Tony Lyford (021 240 881 or jtlyford@xtra.co.nz ).

School Cricket

The WCA has various school competitions for primary / intermediate and secondary female players to participate.

Lone Star Girls Trophy This is a 9 per side Hardball competition for Intermediate A and College Teams played on Thursday evenings (16 overs per innings).

Combined Secondary Girls A combined Secondary Girls (year 9 & above) side plays in the Saturday morning junior college colts competition (Trevor Martin Trophy). This is open to any female secondary player who wishes to participate in a stronger cricketing competition. College 1st XIs Both Wairarapa College, St Matthew’s and Solway College will have 1st XI teams competing in the Wairarapa Womens Premier League (WWPL) on a Wednesday afternoon.

Club

Wairarapa Womens Premier League (WWPL) A new T20 club competition with two womens club teams and 3 school 1st XIs played on Tuesday afternoon. If you are interested in playing send an email to fdo@wairarapacricket.co.nz

Representative

For the 2017/18 season the WCA will have the following Girls & Women’s representative teams:

Wairarapa Korus (Senior Womens)

Pre-Season trainings will commence July / August 2017 and Representative trials will be held in October 2017 (dates to be confirmed).
